On Wednesday, February 18th, members of the Athens FFA got to experience one of the broadest workforce fields out there: agriculture. Many of us probably see agriculture just as farming or raising livestock, but it in fact encompasses a wide range of fields from agronomy to viticulture.

This is a fact that many members came to realize on the chapter’s Ag Career Day. On the trip, members were taken around to various agricultural businesses in the area. At each location they were able to ask in person details pertaining to each job such as rate of pay and what college classes they need to be hired.

Stops on the trip consisted of a variety of agricultural businesses. These were comprised of Brandt Consolidated, FS, the Petersburg Veterinary Clinic (pictured above), and the Department of Ag. Students were led on a tour of each by an experienced employee who explained the duties of his/her job and other jobs available in the company.

Career Day gave members a broadened mindset on what agriculture has to offer besides just a place on the farm or ranch. The Athens FFA would like to thank all businesses who participated in this event. Without you, this opportunity would not have been possible.
